35. The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri: I read this ages ago, and I can't believe I didn't say anything about it. I loved this book. It was so amazing. I love her writing style. I could just eat it up. It was about an Indian-American named Gogol/Nikhil/Nick and dealing with race and culture in America. It hit a nerve with me because I have dealt with the same issues and feelings. The only thing is, that I'm NOT embarrassed to be Chinese or have a Chinese-ass family. It was so sad. I recommend this to everyone that has to deal with cross-cultural issues.

36. Fables vol. 10: The Good Prince by Bill Willingham and Mark Buckingham: One of the best Fable trades that I have read. Flycatcher/Prince Ambrose rise to the occasion and prepares for war with the Adversary. Very hero's journey if you know what I mean.

37. Lean Mean Thirteen by Janet Evanovich: Stephanie Plum tangles with her ex Dickie Orr and he ends up missing. Hi jinx ensue. Cheesy, takes like 2 hours to read, but fun. I think of it as the Babysitter's Club for adults.

38. Watchmen by Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons: Who will watch the Watchmen? Probably all of America next year when the film comes out. I like Alan Moore's writing and it won a Hugo, so it caught my eye at the store. It was really interesting, not your usual superhero shlock, cause most of them aren't superhuman. Just regular people dressed up fighting crime, and dealing with their life and aftermath. Very good.

I've seen the film based on The Namesake and I really enjoyed it. I wished it had included more about AFTER he had come to peace with his cultural identity rather than before but it was still quite good!

Yeah me too! I love Kal Penn, even though I think he plays a lot of stupid characters. He tried to buy the rights to the screenplay after he read the book for the first time.

You know, I thought I was going to like The Namesake more than I did! I think that's what happens when people recommend books over and over-- it's beautifully written, though, that's for sure. Or maybe because my biggest cross-cultural issue is going from the South to the North, I don't relate to the book as much? Though that's never stopped me before with relating to books with similar themes. Notice how I feel guilty about not being in love with the book? It's because it was so pretty.

I know what you mean about feeling guilty. There's a lot of classic canon that I just.don't.like!
