I see that a lot of you ladies are doing the 100 books in a year. I thought that it was really exciting, but I've been in a reading slump lately. Too depressed to read anything, which to someone like me (literary nerd) is horrifying and embarassing.

I'm not so ambitious, so I'm doing my own version, 52 books in a year. I'm a little behind.

1. Little Red Riding Hood Uncloaked: Sex, Morality, and the Evolution of a Fairy Tale by Catherine Orenstein:
I really liked this book. It was an interesting disection of different versions of the fairy tale (and how it changed over time). If you like feminism and fairy tales, read this.

2. Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick:
Saw Blade Runner but never read the book. Much better than the movie. Makes more sense/easier to read than other PKD books.

3. A Cook's Tour : Global Adventures in Extreme Cuisines by Anthony Bourdain:

I hated it at first, then I eventually liked it. I like his writing style. It's a little condescending. He visits a few foreign countries, but the parts on Cambodia (where my family is from) and Vietnam really got to me. He talks about the poverty and poor living conditions there, and at first it came off as judgemental. But then I realize that he respects and enjoys the people and their culture.

I was angry because I thought that it was because he was a condescending American prick, but I realized it was because I think that I would feel the same way if I was there. *shame*

4. Visions of Sugar Plums by Janet Evanovich:
Super fluffy quick read. It was okay, would reccomend only if you were a fan of the Stephanie Plum series by Evanovich.
